Overcast skies during Sunday’s training hike to the top Mount San Miguel were not good for photography. On the way down from the mountaintop, the sky cleared and I spotted the leaves of this yucca.

The dry trough at Barrel Spring

Barrel Spring, an important water source for Pacific Crest Trail hikers, was bone dry this afternoon. We checked the source of the spring and it was dry too. Most PCT hikers are well past this point on the trail by now. About 15 gallons of water was cached here, for any late-starting hikers.

Wednesday’s hike up Mount San Miguel did not have the dramatic clouds of the past few hikes but it was pleasant, none the less. A nice view of Chula Vista from Mount San Miguel, as the sun sets with Otay Lake in the distance.
